For most people, Twitter is something that they either see as either extremely time consuming or not important. I am here to tell you, they’re wrong. Twitter is an extremely important tool when marketing your business. Where else can you get your business in front of thousands of people and for free too. Although signing up for Twitter is a quick painless task, there are certain things to keep in mind when creating your account. For starts, choosing the proper name is essential. Your username will be displayed on your profile and will tell your followers what to expect from you. This comes in handy when branding. If you are branding yourself as an individual, then it may be a good idea to use your name as your username. If this is going to be an account that is going to shared between employees for a company, then it may be a wise idea to brand your Twitter account with your company name.

Now that we have a Twitter account there are a few rules to keep in mind. For one there is a difference between Business and Hobby when it comes to any social media marketing solution. In the same respect however, people don’t like to have business thrown at them 24/7. There is a fine line of what is acceptable and what is intolerable. Another tool that is free to use is a website called bit.ly. It was designed to take lengthy URLs and shorten them to an acceptable size to be used on Twitter. The idea of using Tiwtter is to drive more people to your website by tweeting to your blog and blogging to your website.  With external links feeding into your website, search engines rank your site higher in comparison to those who aren’t using social media platforms to market their business.

Another great aspect about any social media platform is the ability to have links from your website to your different platforms. We all have seen them, the classic facebook F and the Twitter bird on a company’s site. With higher traffic to your site by the utilization of these different social medias such as twitter, it is easy to see how your online business will increase.
